We offer IPL laser and electrolysis permanent hair removal and treat all areas of the face & body. We can treat all hair and skin types.
IPL is short for intense pulsed light. It uses light wavelengths delivered in pulses that pass through the skin and target the melanin in the skin & hair. It can be used for permanent hair removal as well as for treating skin conditions such as acne rosacea, pigmentation, lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, freckles and more
The light energy passes through the skin targeting the melanin in the hair follicle, this is then converted to heat, destroying the hair follicle and preventing future regrowth. It is important to shave the hair prior to treatment so that maximum heat energy is in the follicle and not on the skin surface.
IPL works best on dark hair and light skin. Pale skin, fair skin with blue eyes & darker white skin (Fitzpatrick Skin types 1-3) can be treated successfully however only if there is pigment in the hair. IPL does not work on white, blonde or fair red hair, these are better suited to electrlysis. People with light brown skin or black skin (Fitzpatrick skin types s 4,5 & 6) cannot be treated with IPL.
IPL can reduce big areas of hair quicker than electrolysis which is why it is more common, however, IPL does not work on red, white or blonde hair so if you have a combination of hair colours like dark & white or dark & red, then we can design a treatment plan to combine both treatments and targeting all the hairs achieving permanent hair removal whichever hair colour you have.
For best results, 5 -8 sessions are recommended at 4-6 week intervals
Yes, you must book a consultation and patch test prior to treatment if you have never been treated with us before, even if you have been treated elsewhere. This is completely free of charge and takes around 30 minutes (if you are booking through my Treatwell online booking system, it is listed there as a £1 charge which is refunded at the consultation or you can opt out of paying up front and select pay venue, they will not allow a free treatment to be listed.
Throughout the course of IPL, you will see and feel the difference from the first or second session, the hair becomes reduced, coming back finer, softer and lighter and your skin texture feels smoother so you do not have to shave as much in between. The overall amount of treatments needed varies from person to person and depends on factors such as hair density, coarseness, treatment area. All this will be discussed at your initial consultation and patch test.
Laser and IPL are known as permanent hair reduction as apposed to permanent removal as there is sometimes a small percentage of hairs that do not respond but these can be treated with electrolysis. Not only is electrolysis 100% permanent, its also effective for all hair types, all hair colours, all skin types and all skin colours too.
We work alongside the NHS in providing permanent hair removal to patients with NHS funding, usually who meet a certain criteria. This is usually provided to patients with PCOS and Body Dysmorphia. Please get in touch for more information and to discuss how we can help you with your NHS journey to hair removal.
IPL is non invasive so you can go about your day as normal following treatment, the hair will shed from the follicle around 2 weeks after the treatment. You can encourage this to shed sooner by rubbing or exfoliating
